Bali - Sunday, 20 October 2002
I'm totally enraged by the bombing incident in Bali. One of the expatriate in my office (one of the only two gwms in the company) was killed there.. he's meeting his rugby teammates at Sari Cafe when the first bomb blasted.. very sad indeed, especially since he'd only started working here a short while ago. Nobody can be certain if it was purely domestic or there's a foreign involvement at the moment, but one thing is certain: whoever did it needs to realize that what he/she did is plain s-t-u-p-i-d!
I won't be surprised if it was a domestic incident. No matter how strongly our leaders try to deny it, the fact remains: there's a lot of radical Moslem groups in Indonesia. They’ve got to be blind not to see those so-called Moslem groups recruiting people a few months ago and teaching them combats. If they won’t call those groups terrorist-in-the-making, may be they are the terrorist!
Speaking about our leaders, I’ve been trying so hard not to believe it, but there’s no denying it now: they’re morons! Not only the political leaders, the religious leaders are just as stupid. How many bombing incidents do they need to see before they declare them to be terrorist attacks? How many people have to die before they realize the seriousness of the situation and start to do something about them? I don’t think one needs to be a genius to understand that we have to do something about the violence that’s been happening these days.
I don’t understand how the so-called religious leaders can just sit around watching their people destroy buildings, beat up people, and do all kinds of physical destruction in the name of their religion. I’m not very religious myself, but – from what little I learned in school – I do believe that religion, any religion, is about peace and harmony. So where does it go wrong?
Back to what happened in Bali & hellip;
I wouldn't rule out foreign involvement just yet. I heard a rather disturbing theory on the radio a few days ago. Someone in our intelligence said that what happened in Bali was staged by US Intelligence. I don’t know how accurate it is, but it’s very intriguing. US government had been badgering us on terrorism, accusing a lot of Moslem groups of being linked to Al Qaeda, which involvement in the World Trade Center incident – I think – still hasn’t been proved beyond reasonable doubt yet, when all of a sudden – boom! – two bombs blasted in the most strategic of all places.
Whoever behind the bombing is not really relevant. I'm just so sick and tired of the violence and the inflammatory speeches coming out people who care about nothing but themselves. I keep wondering if I’d be fortunate enough to finally see peace and harmony in this universe…
