WAR IN IRAQ.. MYTHS AND FACTS

It's been more than 10 days since the war in Iraq begun. For weeks the world had been anticipating about whether or not the US would actually attack and about a couple of weeks ago we all got our answers. It was not a bluff and they made sure the whole world knew they really mean business. They used scud missiles and B-52 bombers from day one.

UK joined forces not long after. Then, just like an obedient puppy, Australia came along.

For almost a couple of weeks now I've been trying to find the reason what drove those three countries to declare war on Iraq. The US President said in the international television that the US is concerned about the Iraqis' welfare and they would use extreme measures to free them from the Saddam's dictatorship. Exactly like in the movie "Reign of Fire", the British PM echoed exactly the same thing. Then, one would get the feeling of being in a cave, because the echo bounced back from the Australian PM. I can't help wondering how they would go about this "rescuing" mission.. by sending them all to death???

There have been lots of speculations on what really drove the US to attack Iraq. Some said the US can't stand Iraq control oil price and would do anything to get US oil companies to the country. Some said the US can't let Iraq use Euro.

In his next international speech, the US President said that the war does not target Iraqis, that it solely targets Saddam Hussein's regime. I don't know about other people, but to me it sounded idiotic. Somehow I don't think saying "don't worry, they don't mean to kill us" would provide comfort when (a) member(s) of your family got killed by a missile or whatever. It won't matter whether or not the deaths are intentional; people would still be dead. If the situation were reversed, I wonder if Bush would be able to say "don't worry, they don't mean to kill us" to comfort his wife should one their daughters got killed by one of Saddam's men.

In the same speech, the US President also said that the US had already prepared such and such thousands of dollars for food and medications. I wonder how many Iraqis would live long enough to enjoy the food. If it were I, I would rather die from hunger than survive from the food given by the people who kill my family. As for the medications, I understand that they would be helpful for those who are physically suffer from wounds, but would it also covers psychiatric assistance for children with war trauma, which would be plenty???

Despite what really caused the war, I have to wonder: is it really worth the life and the sanity of that many INNOCENT people...
